Oregon State vs. Cal... GO BEAVERS!

The weekend of 10/12 Oregon State played the Cal bears at the historic Cal Memorial Stadium. My brother, Justin, and Nichols all came from Oregon to go to the game with the expectation that the Beavers were going to get slaughtered by, at the time No. 2 Cal. My friend Tamara, Drew and myself were responsible for taking them around the town. The game, to say the least, was one of the most exciting games I've been to in person. The only other one topping it was the triple overtime win at Civil War game. Cal's stadium was intense for the entire game, and both teams kept the score close. By the middle of the 3rd quarter, word had gotten around to all the Cal fans that LSU had lost in triple overtime to Kentucky, and the Cal fans went nuts. For about 2 hours, in their collective heads, they were the new No. 1 in town. Not so fast Bears, the Beavers are in town. After 2 quick scores, the Beavers were on top in the 4th by 10. The Beaver defense were even able to stop the Bears from scoring off the 1 yard line. Despite it being his first start, Kevin Riley, a Beaverton High School alum, played an amazing game for Cal, but even he couldn't do much against the Beaver defense. Cal was able to get a bunch of breaks from the timing officials and referees who collectively added at least 45 seconds extra to the game clock. 30 seconds left in the 4th, Cal was in the red zone, and in the position to score. 10 seconds left, Cal's sacked... with time running out, and no time outs, they tried to get their kicking team on the field to tie...3...2...1...


Oregon State wins and upsets No. 2 Cal!!!! I wish I had a picture, but the Cal fans were so stunned that they just stood in their seats for 5 minutes before exiting the stadium. I also wish the Cal fan in front of me had the guts to stay for the entire game. Though, after my first few rounds yelling "cheaters" he was getting grumpy at me. He would have been deaf in his left ear if he and his wife hadn't left sooner.
